Firstly, PSN stands for PlayStation Network.ID stands for Identification. The PSN ID is what other users will see when playing online, and depending on your privacy settings, looking up trophies, etc. It is tied to an email address (which can be changed), which is used for logging in and managing your PSN Account.

Try setting up the connection again from scratch (make sure your codes are in the right letter-case, my mate spent hours trying to work that one out!)
